·	How do you know editors’ preferences for column submissions?

Simple. Newspaper editors who DON'T want e-mail submissions do not list their e-mail address on their Web site. And if they ask to be taken off our submission list, we act immediately.

Whenever a name is available, your submission is directed to that editor by name. If the newspaper does not list the editor or publisher's name, the query is addressed to "Features Editor," or "Lifestyle Editor," whichever title is offered via the Web site.

Each time the list is sent out, it is revised to reflect staff changes as well as those editors who wish to opt-out of our submission list. Therefore the list is always current.

Unfortunately, I cannot customize the list to exclude editors without eliminating them from our database entirely.

Actually, technically, I can, but I won’t. Here’s why.

The daily editors, for example, are sent in four different batches. If editors are dropped from one client's list, I would have a variation on one in four batches. I'd have different batches -- one with THIS editor excluded, one with THAT editor excluded, depending on the client. Obviously if I had did that, the price of a submission would go waaaayyyy up.

Bottom line, editors are used to getting mailings from the “Market 2 Editors” site and expect to get at least four column submissions. If they are interested in your work, they will WANT to see additional samples. Just drop them a note and say you signed up for a 4 or 6-submission package and they will be getting more sample columns. That is how everyone has handled it in the past and there have never been any complaints from editors.

The list of newspaper editors is not for sale. The reason is because Market2Editors is committed to supplying newspaper editors with quality column submissions -- even if it does not happen to fit their immediate editorial needs. Were we to sell the list, we would lose quality control, thus compromising our relationship with editors.
