If you are lucky enough to be picked up by a syndicate such as King Features, I say “Go for it!”

In 1993, I received that honor. That year, King received over 5,000 submissions. I was one of two they chose. It launched an incredible career that kept me flying between New York and Los Angeles talk shows on a monthly basis for over a decade. I appeared on Larry King Live, Oprah (three times), 20/20, and yada, yada, yada.

INCOME

·	Syndicates keep 50 percent for selling your newspaper column--which is fair since without them, you would have no income at all. Should they sell 50 papers at $50 per month, you would make $1,250 per month.

·	When you self-syndicate through Market2Editors, you pay a flat fee to send your newspaper column to editors nationwide. You keep all the profits--meaning if you sell 50 papers at $50, you make $2,500 per month--minus a 1-time fee of under $500.

THE LAUNCH

·	During the Launch, Syndicates present your newspaper column to editors nationwide--either in person or by phone.

·	No, we don’t call. We don’t write. Still, Market2Editors e-mails your newspaper column to these very same editors.

THE LAUNCH PARTY

·	Your Syndicate probably won’t even have a launch party unless you fly to New York and host it yourself.

·	So throw your own danged party--at home with folks that love you and wish you well. Plus, if you make one thin dime, you can write the whole thing off.

After your initial 4-8 submission package, Market2Editors suggests you wait at least six months before trying again. This gives a chance for turnover at the papers, both by editors and by newspaper columnists.

But what of the other 4998 newspaper columnists who submitted to King that year? Were many of them good enough to have their newspaper column published? Absolutely! Were there editors who, given a choice, might have preferred their newspaper column to mine? Quite probably. And yet, I don’t like to think about that.
