A title that SAYS IT. In as few words as possible. If you can "say it" in three words, you win the prize.

In fact, I cannot stress how important a good title is. Clever is very in. As is alliteration. The best titles TELL just exactly what the column is in as few words as possible.

In my defense, let me say I chose it long before I knew most of the information that graces the pages of this Web site. Like many amateurs, I thought about myself rather than what readers would relate to.

"Ask Rat Dog" is a Q & A where consumers ask a private eye about scams they have been exposed to. Unless you know about the Rat Dog Dick Detective Agency in San Francisco, this title means NOTHING! In fact, a much better title would have been: "The Fraud Broad."
