UK Firms Being Forced To Put IT Projects On Hold Due To Lockdown

COVID-19 sent shockwaves across the world, with many industries being hit hard by the pandemic. IT, with its king kong agency reviews, digital marketing, and online capabilities, hasn’t been hit as hard as most, but it still felt the hit.

Computer software and IT market research firm PagerDuty decided to take a bit of a closer look on the matter, analyzing how the IT industry was hit by the lockdown that came as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their latest report is a poll of more than 700 developers and IT professionals operating in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Asia-Pacific, covering developers, IT experts, and services like king kong agency reviews and whatnot.

Data from the poll shows that the UK’s IT industry got hit pretty hard, with more than a quarter of businesses reporting that they’d had to either cancel or delay at least 16 projects within the past 3-6 month time period. The majority of the businesses who reported such issues reported that they saw significantly more pressure bearing down on their digital services, alongside a 45% increase in the number of reported incidents that involve said digital services.

As a result of the increased traffic and problems, the majority of IT professionals (about 66%) spent at least 10 more hours at work weekly, dealing with them.

UK’s business have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic harder than most. 20% of businesses in Australia, Germany, Japan, and the US reported delayed projects, while France has had it a bit easier, with only 14% of businesses reporting cancellations or delays.

PagerDuty VP of Product Rachel Obstler says that the research shows what companies have to deal with to keep up with the sudden surge of digital service needs from customers, which was brought about by COVID-19, on top of the additional strain.

It also notes the human cost of such a revolution, with a lot (71%) of IT professionals admitting to having to have to work during their free time, with 40% saying they had to “firefight”, or deal with unplanned work, all the time.
